ABOUT This presentation is derived from an 'adventure style' game being developed in VRML. It is in fact the opening scene/level of a game that currently has 5 connected scenes. For the purpose of this submission, some interactivity has been removed. However, like a true 'adventure' game ... there are thinks to explore and find, including two clues that may (or may not) point to the 'Ripper' So explore, because in the true style of 'adventure' gaming, some things are not easy to find :)
REQUIREMENTS This VRML demo requires Blaxxun Contact 5+. It does NOT work in Cortona as it makes use of the Contact specific VRML extension of 3DLayer. It will work with BitManagement's Contact 6+ but the ugly wandering Bitmanagement logo in the free version distracts form the quality of the experience The VRML does not have an excessive number of triangles and ever effort has been made to optimize file size. As the scene covers a large area, the triangle count for various parts in the distance are controlled using Level Of Detail (LOD) nodes. Maximum triangle count moving around the scene ~ 7000, likely range 2500-5000 However, there are quite a few textures files (268KB) to download , so a fast internet connection is needed
RESOURCES USED 1. Textures : All textures were created by the author from scratch, or by modifying and/or combining game textures that have been released to the community (eg: Jonathan Clark's Golgotha Game Textures) 2. Audio : These files were either recorded by the author, or created by combining/mixing audio files from free sound archives on the net.
CREATION TOOLS 1. Geometry/VRML : AC3D and VRMLPad 2. Image Creation/Manipulation : Corel Photopaint 3. Sound Recording/Mixing/Editing : Goldwave
RESEARCH A great resource for reference material: Casebook: Jack the Ripper (Police images of victims obtained from this site).
So ...... off you go to Whitechapel ;-)
Ohhh... and you are not alone!!
